The customer was a large US retailer who had worked with us on previous shipments. This time, they needed to ship glass cups from China to Texas. Their main concerns were faster delivery, reasonable shipping costs, and protective packaging to reduce the risk of damage during transportation.

  • Cargo Inspection & Repackaging: During the inspection, our warehouse team found that the original packaging did not meet the relevant transportation and clearance requirements. We arranged replacement packaging to prepare the fragile glass cups for international shipping.
  • Shipping Documentation & Labeling: We checked the cargo information, prepared the necessary shipping documentation, and arranged relabeling to meet the shipment requirements.
  • Air Freight DDP Arrangement: Considering the customer’s delivery deadline and budget, we arranged Air Freight DDP Door-to-Door shipping, including cargo pickup, international transportation, customs clearance, and final delivery.
  • Customs Clearance & DDP Service: We coordinated the required customs procedures in China and the USA, with applicable import duties and taxes handled under the agreed DDP service.
  • Final Door-to-Door Delivery: After customs clearance, we arranged delivery to the customer’s designated address in Texas and provided shipment updates throughout the transportation process.

Chargeable Weight: 335 KG
Cargo Quantity: 1 Wooden Case
Shipping Route: China to Australia
Shipping Method: Sea Freight DDP Door-to-Door
Transit Time: 23 Days After Vessel Departure

The customer was an Australian importer whose factory had stopped production due to equipment failure. They urgently needed replacement machinery from China but wanted to avoid expensive air freight. The customer also required a clear shipping quotation, reliable cargo protection, customs clearance support, and delivery directly to their factory.

  • Supplier Pickup & Warehouse Receiving: We arranged cargo pickup from the supplier in Shenyang and transported the machinery to our Shenzhen warehouse for inspection and shipment preparation.
  • Cargo Inspection & Reinforced Packaging: After receiving the equipment, our warehouse team checked its condition and reinforced the wooden case to provide additional protection during handling and sea transportation.
  • Cost-Effective Sea Freight Arrangement: To balance the customer’s urgent delivery needs and budget, we recommended Sea Freight DDP Door-to-Door as a more economical alternative to air freight.
  • Customs Clearance & DDP Service: We coordinated the required shipping documentation and customs clearance arrangements in China and Australia, including applicable import duties and taxes under the agreed DDP service. This helped the customer understand the shipping costs in advance.

Case 3: Shipping Printer Accessories (280 KG, 15 Packages) from China to Slovenia by Rail Freight DDP

DFH Logistics-DDP Shipping From China

Customer Source: Customer Referral
Cargo Type: Printer Accessories
Chargeable Weight: 280 KG
Cargo Quantity: 15 Packages
Shipping Route: China to Slovenia
Shipping Method: Rail Freight DDP Door-to-Door
Transit Time: 37 Days

The customer was a Slovenian wholesaler purchasing printer accessories from three suppliers in Hunan, Zhuhai, and Jiangsu, China. Since the suppliers had different production schedules, the customer needed warehouse storage, cargo consolidation, and a cost-effective DDP shipping solution. Their target was to keep shipping costs below $3.5/kg and receive the goods within 40 days.

  • Multi-Supplier Cargo Collection & Consolidation: We arranged the collection of 4 packages from Hunan, 2 from Zhuhai, and 9 from Jiangsu. The goods were received and consolidated at our warehouse, allowing the customer to ship all 15 packages together instead of arranging separate shipments.
  • Cargo Repacking & Labeling: After receiving the goods, our warehouse team arranged suitable repacking and relabeling to improve cargo protection and prepare the shipment for international transportation and customs clearance.
  • Rail Freight DDP Arrangement: We compared sea and rail freight options based on the customer’s budget and delivery deadline. Although rail freight cost $280 more than sea freight, its estimated transit time was significantly shorter than the approximately 55-day sea freight option. The customer chose rail freight to meet the 40-day delivery requirement.
  • Customs Clearance & DDP Service: Under the agreed DDP service, we coordinated the required shipping documentation, import customs clearance, and applicable duties and taxes, simplifying the import process for the customer.
  • Final Door-to-Door Delivery: We combined international rail freight with express delivery for the final transportation stage, arranging delivery to the customer’s designated address in Slovenia.

The shipment was successfully delivered in 37 days, with the customer receiving all 15 packages on May 27. The customer was highly satisfied with our communication, cargo consolidation, and reliable delivery arrangements and expressed interest in working with us again.

If you’re looking for a reliable freight forwarder for DDP shipping from China to your destination, you can share your supplier locations, cargo details, budget, and delivery deadline with us. We can help arrange a suitable Door-to-Door shipping solution.

What Is DDP Shipping From China and What Does It Include?

DDP stands for Delivered Duty Paid. Under the ICC Incoterms 2020 rules, the seller is responsible for delivering goods to the agreed destination, completing export and import customs clearance, and paying applicable import duties and taxes.

DDP shipping from China helps buyers simplify international trade by placing most transportation costs and customs responsibilities on the seller. However, certain services may require separate arrangements.

Cost or ResponsibilityIncluded Under DDP?
International FreightYes, to the agreed destination
Export & Import Customs ClearanceYes, seller’s responsibility
Import Duties & TaxesYes, applicable duties and taxes
Final Door-to-Door DeliveryYes, to the named destination
Unloading & InstallationNot automatically included
Cargo InsuranceNot mandatory; arranged separately if needed
Special Handling & Extra ServicesSubject to the agreed service scope

Under DDP, the seller bears the risk until the goods are made available at the named destination, ready for unloading. The buyer is generally responsible for unloading unless otherwise agreed.

If you are unsure what is included in DDP shipping from China, you can share your cargo details and delivery address with us. We can help clarify the shipping costs, customs responsibilities, applicable duties and taxes, and final delivery arrangements before booking.

Which DDP Shipping Method Should You Choose?

The best DDP shipping method depends on your cargo dimensions, weight, destination, budget, and delivery deadline. Sea freight generally works well for large shipments, while air is better suited to smaller, urgent cargo.

Rail and truck freight provide additional options for eligible shipments to Europe and the UK.

Shipping MethodBest ForSpeedCostMain Advantage
LCL Sea FreightSmaller commercial shipments and consolidated supplier ordersSlowLowShare container space
FCL Sea FreightLarge shipments, furniture, machinery, and wholesale stockSlowLowDedicated container

How Does DDP Shipping from China Work?

DDP shipping from China typically involves cargo assessment, supplier pickup, warehouse preparation, international transportation, customs clearance, and final delivery.

The following real shipment example shows how we arranged DDP Door-to-Door shipping for a Canadian e-commerce customer.

Case Example: Shipping Branded Cell Phone Cases (152 KG, 9 Cartons) from Guangzhou to Canada by Sea Freight DDP

DFH Logistics-DDP Shipping From China

Customer Source: DFH Freight Website Inquiry
Cargo Type: Branded Cell Phone Cases
Chargeable Weight: 152 KG
Cargo Quantity: 9 Cartons
Shipping Route: China to Canada
Shipping Method: Sea Freight DDP Door-to-Door
Transit Time: 28 Days

Step 1: Share Your Cargo Details and Get a Quote

The customer contacted us through our website after experiencing customs-related delays with previous shipments. He wanted a cost-effective and reliable DDP shipping solution for his e-commerce products.

We discussed his cargo details, shipping concerns, and delivery requirements before recommending a suitable sea freight service.

Step 2: Confirm Cargo Details and Shipping Requirements

Because the shipment contained branded cell phone cases, we considered the product characteristics and relevant shipping requirements before arranging transportation.

For DDP shipments, accurate product information and appropriate customs documentation are important for selecting a suitable shipping channel.

Step 3: Arrange Supplier Pickup and Warehouse Receiving

We arranged the pickup of the 9 cartons from the customer’s supplier in Guangzhou and transported them to our Shenzhen warehouse.

After receiving the goods, our warehouse team checked the product information and prepared the cargo for international shipment.

Step 4: Complete Labeling and Arrange Sea Freight

Our warehouse team arranged labeling according to the shipping requirements to help ensure the cartons were properly identified and prepared.

Considering the customer’s budget and delivery expectations, we selected a suitable faster sea freight service for the 152 KG shipment to Canada.

Step 5: Coordinate Import Customs Clearance

Under the agreed DDP arrangement, we coordinated Canadian customs clearance and the handling of applicable import duties and taxes.

This simplified the import process for the customer, who did not need to manage the customs procedures independently.

Step 6: Complete Final Door-to-Door Delivery

After customs clearance, we coordinated transportation to the customer’s designated destination in Canada.

The shipment was successfully delivered in 28 days. The customer was satisfied with our cargo handling, shipping arrangements, and customs clearance support.

This case demonstrates how DDP shipping can combine supplier pickup, warehouse preparation, international freight, customs coordination, and final delivery into one organized service.

If you need DDP shipping from China, you can give us your product details, cargo weight, supplier location, and delivery address. We can help review your requirements and recommend a suitable Door-to-Door shipping solution.

What Documents and Customs Information Are Needed for DDP Shipping?

DDP shipping reduces the number of logistics arrangements a buyer needs to organize, but it does not remove the need for accurate product information or legally required import documents.

The exact requirements depend on the destination country and the products being shipped.

Basic Documents for DDP Shipments

DocumentPurpose
Commercial InvoiceIdentifies the buyer, seller, goods, declared value, quantity, and agreed trade terms
Packing ListShows package counts, dimensions, weight, and cargo details
Bill of Lading or Air WaybillRecords transportation and shipment information
HS Code and Product DescriptionSupports customs classification and duty assessment
Importer or Consignee InformationIdentifies the parties required for import clearance
Certificate of OriginSupports origin verification or eligible preferential tariff claims
Product Permits or CertificationsRequired for certain regulated products or materials

Not every shipment needs every document in this table. However, missing product details, inconsistent values, or incorrect classifications can delay customs clearance even when DDP service has been arranged.

If you are unsure which customs documents or importer details are needed, share your product specifications, commercial invoice, packing list, and destination country with us. We can help identify the information that should be confirmed before dispatch.

How Long Does DDP Shipping From China Take?

DDP shipping time depends on the destination, transportation method, cargo preparation, customs clearance, and final delivery location.

Sea freight usually takes longer but is suitable for large cargo volumes. Air is generally faster, while rail and truck services offer alternatives for eligible shipments to Europe and the UK.

The table below provides broad estimated Door-to-Door shipping times for planning purposes.

If you have a specific delivery deadline, you can share your cargo details, supplier location, and destination address with us, and we can help you compare available DDP shipping options.

DDP Shipping Costs from China by Destination

DDP shipping costs depend on the destination country, transportation method, cargo volume, chargeable weight, and applicable import duties and taxes. Sea freight is generally more economical for large shipments, while air service is suitable for time-sensitive cargo.

The following table provides estimated freight rate ranges in USD for major shipping routes from China.

Rates also vary with container size, cargo dimensions, carrier capacity, and seasonal demand.

For an accurate DDP shipping quotation, you can send us your product name, cargo value, packing list, total CBM, weight, supplier city, and delivery postcode. We can help calculate the estimated shipping cost and explain the services and charges included in your quotation.

What’s the Difference Between DDP and Other Common Terms (DDU/DAP, FOB, EXW, CIF)?

The main difference between DDP and other shipping terms is who pays for transportation, handles customs clearance, and takes responsibility for import duties and taxes. Understanding these responsibilities helps you compare supplier quotations and avoid unexpected shipping costs.

The table below compares common trade terms used when importing goods from China.

Comparison of Responsibilities Under Different Incoterms

International FreightSellerBuyerBuyerSellerSeller

DDP, DAP, and EXW can be used with different transportation methods, while FOB and CIF are intended for sea and inland waterway transport. You can review the official Incoterms 2020 rules from the International Chamber of Commerce for detailed responsibilities.

Which Shipping Term Should You Choose?

DDP may be suitable if you prefer a more predictable shipping arrangement with import duties, taxes, and final delivery covered under the agreed terms. FOB, EXW, or CIF may be more practical when you already have an experienced freight forwarder and established customs arrangements.

However, DDP still requires a legally valid importer and customs clearance arrangement in the destination country. Services such as unloading, installation, and cargo insurance are not automatically included.

If you are unsure whether DDP, DAP, FOB, EXW, or CIF is suitable for your shipment, you can send us your supplier’s quotation, cargo details, and delivery address. We can help you compare the shipping responsibilities and choose a suitable transportation solution.

What Types of Commodities Are Prohibited or Restricted Under Your DDP Framework?

Not all products are eligible for standard DDP shipping from China. Some goods are prohibited by law or carrier regulations, while others require special documentation, permits, or transportation arrangements before shipment.

Prohibited Goods

The following categories are generally not accepted through our standard DDP shipping services:

  • Illegal or Counterfeit Products: Fake branded goods, illegal drugs, and products that violate intellectual property or import laws.
  • Weapons and Explosives: Firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other prohibited weapons.
  • Highly Dangerous Materials: Certain toxic, radioactive, explosive, or highly flammable substances that cannot be carried on the selected route.
  • Other Prohibited Items: Goods banned from import or transportation by the destination country or the relevant carrier.

Restricted Goods Requiring Prior Approval

Some products may be shipped through approved routes after reviewing their specifications and documentation.

  • Lithium Batteries and Battery-Powered Products: May require UN38.3 test documentation, safety information, compliant packaging, and carrier approval.
  • Liquids, Powders, and Chemicals: Cosmetics, perfumes, cleaning products, and similar goods may require an SDS and additional classification checks.
  • Food, Medicines, and Medical Products: May require import permits, product registration, labeling, or other destination-specific approvals.
  • Wood, Plants, and Animal Products: May be subject to phytosanitary rules, CITES restrictions, or additional customs inspections.
  • Wireless and Electrical Equipment: Certain devices may require safety certifications, telecommunications approvals, or other compliance documents.

Please do not send restricted or potentially hazardous products to our warehouse before receiving confirmation.

If you are unsure whether your products qualify for DDP shipping, send us the product name, photos, specifications, battery details (if applicable), and destination country. We can review the cargo information and help confirm whether a suitable shipping route is available.

DDP Shipping Requirements by Country

DDP shipping requirements vary by destination, especially for customs clearance, import taxes, and product compliance. Before placing an order, you should check the local importer requirements and confirm which costs and services are included in your DDP quotation.

FAQs About DDP Shipping From China

Does DDP Shipping From China Include Customs Duty and VAT?

Yes. Under standard DDP terms, the seller is responsible for applicable import duties and taxes, including VAT or GST where relevant. However, you should confirm the quotation scope, importer arrangements, and any separately agreed charges before shipping.

Do I Need an Import License or Tax ID for DDP Shipping?

Not always, but DDP does not automatically remove legal import requirements. Depending on the destination and product, the importer may need a registration number, tax ID, customs bond, or import license. We can help clarify which information is required for your shipment.

Can I Use DDP Shipping for Orders from Alibaba or 1688?

Yes. You can purchase products from Alibaba, 1688, or several Chinese factories and arrange delivery to our Shenzhen warehouse. We can help receive the goods, check package quantities, consolidate eligible orders, and organize international DDP shipping.

Can DDP Shipping Deliver Directly to Amazon FBA Warehouses?

Yes, for eligible shipments with suitable importer and customs arrangements. We can help coordinate carton labeling, shipment preparation, customs clearance, and delivery appointments according to applicable Amazon FBA requirements. See our Amazon FBA shipping services for more information.

 Does DDP Include Cargo Insurance?

No. Cargo insurance is not automatically included in DDP shipping, but we can arrange coverage through Ping An Insurance and China Pacific Insurance (CPIC). Our negotiated rates can be as low as 0.05% of the insured value. Fragile cargo may be subject to a 5% deductible, depending on the policy. You can provide us with your cargo details and value to check the available coverage and insurance cost.

Does DDP Include Unloading and Assembly at My Address?

Not necessarily. Under standard DDP terms, delivery is generally completed when the goods are made available at the named destination, ready for unloading. Services such as forklift unloading, upstairs delivery, unpacking, or assembly should be confirmed separately. You can provide your access requirements before shipping.
